Company Profile

APFD was has been providing emergency assistance since 1900. The fire service has seen many changes throughout the year, including an increase in emergency medical calls, a change from horse drawn pumpers to engines that weigh more than 20 tons and more an increase in training.

One of the biggest changes in the fire service has been the increasing age of the volunteers and the lack of young volunteers joining the fire service. APFD volunteers are parents, work full time, coach their children’s sports teams, attend school and volunteer in their children’s school. APFD members give time when they can and participate in activities they feel comfortable doing.

APFD is a department known for its team-oriented work environment. There are many opportunities for growth and advancement to volunteers at all levels. In addition, APFD offers retirement and volunteer firefighters are eligible for tax benefits for income and property.

Our Fire House is located on Eastern Union Turnpike, conveniently located in the heart of Averill Park. Please stop in for more information! If you’re looking for an opportunity to volunteer and give back to your community, consider APFD!
